Commercial Fence Estimator

Job Description:

The Commercial Fence Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for fencing projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and proposals. This role involves sourcing material prices, obtaining quotes, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with project requirements. The estimator will work closely with project managers, general contractors, and vendors to facilitate smooth project execution from bidding to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Material & Cost Estimation:

• Research and obtain pricing for materials not available in the internal system.
• Request material quotes from suppliers to ensure accurate bid pricing.

1. Bidding & Negotiation:

• Identify and secure additional subcontractor or supplier bids when necessary.
• Contact project winners to negotiate contracts and secure projects.

1. Contract & Compliance Management:

• Prepare and finalize contracts for awarded bids.
• Ensure compliance by obtaining proper insurance and bond information.

1. Project Coordination & Communication:

• Act as the liaison between internal project managers and external contractors.
• Provide ongoing support to project managers regarding issues, problems, or inquiries during construction.

1. Project Tracking & Change Management:

• Monitor contract timelines and track change orders for billing accuracy.
• Maintain documentation for cost adjustments and project modifications.

1. Business Development & Relationship Management:

• Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors.
• Gather contact information and emails for future bidding opportunities.
• Identify new projects and bidding opportunities to expand business reach.

• Have the ability to think quickly and problem solve.
• Must have superior computer skills (MS Office, Internet, and Bluebeam PDF Editor).
• Must be comfortable working for extended periods at a desk, using a computer.
• Experience in reading blueprints, project specifications, detail drawings and addenda.
• Must be self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to details.
• Able to work well in a team environment where situations and demands change daily.

Performance Responsibilities

• Demonstrate the Buchanan Fence Company Core Values daily.
• Must maintain First Aid, CPR certifications
• Ensures that Buchanan Fence plan room policies for quality control are strictly followed to ensure accurate, reliable plans and specifications are delivered promptly to BFC branch offices.
• Searches online plan rooms daily for newly listed projects and addenda to existing plans.
• Thoroughly reviews project plans and specifications, highlighting fence, hand rail, guardrail, gates, access control systems, and other miscellaneous metal requirements.
• Constantly observes the various processes and seeks improvement in both safety and efficiency.
• Arrive to work on time and dress professionally
• Maintaining a clean and presentable office
• Every applicant must undergo pre-employment background check and drug screen. If hired, Updates are required annually.
