Location: Tempe, Arizona Responsibilities State Farm is seeking an experienced data scientist with a passion for mentoring others to serve as a technical lead of the Modeling & Analytics Graduate Network (MAGNet) internship program. The MAGNet program is a primary pipeline for data science talent at State Farm. The individual selected for this role will have the chance to expand both their technical & leadership skills by overseeing the day-to-day operation of the MAGNet program based in Tempe, AZ, in cooperation with Arizona State University (ASU). The key responsibilities of this individual are hiring & developing graduate students working as year-round, State Farm MAGNet interns. These interns are tasked with solving applied data science problems at State Farm. In addition, the MAGNet lead will work closely with the MAGNet programs at other locations to source & scope project work for the MAGNet interns and will serve as a liaison between State Farm’s data science community & the sourcing graduate programs at ASU. Outside of the responsibilities of the MAGNet operation, the selected candidate will contribute to the development of AI/ML educational materials, intended for a variety of internal audiences. This is a full-time role with a hybrid working arrangement based out of Tempe, AZ. Why Join Our Data Science Team? Qualifications Completed master’s or other advanced degree in an analytical field such as statistics, mathematics, economics, data science, quantitative marketing, operations research, industrial engineering, etc. A minimum of 4 years of applied experience developing predictive models in an industry setting Experience building advanced analytic solutions using generalized linear models and at least one of the following: time series analysis, cluster analysis, tree-based algorithms, or neural networks Proficiency with Python, R, or SAS Familiarity with cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS) or Linux Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple, diverse stakeholders across business areas and leadership levels Other Things we Look For: Experience serving as mentor/coach of junior data scientists or interns Experience managing multiple technical projects simultaneously Experience with designing, building, and implementing AI solutions (e.g., natural language processing, large language models, computer vision, generative AI) Experience with gathering and interpreting business requirements to design and create scalable data science solutions in a regulatory environment (including, but not limited to, insurance, healthcare, and finance). Familiarity with concepts related to the design of experiments & the analysis of unstructured data The Selection Process: After submitting your application, our recruitment team will carefully review your qualifications. Following the successful completion of the Hiring Team round, competitive candidates may be invited to the final stage of the process: a final loop interview. This round will involve interviews with members of our hiring panel, allowing us to gain deeper insights into your skills, and experiences. What Else?
